An HME filter is used to prevent the airway drying during anaesthesia or ICU ventilation. It also stops the inhalation of micro-particles from the anaesthetic machine. It serves to reduce heat loss from a patient under anaesthesia. It is available in an adult and paediatric size with a capnographic sampling port.
